SCHOOL THEME: Dream, Believe, Achieve
Believe in Yourself
Achieve the (im)possible
SCHOOL MOTTO: 5G Ready: Goals, Grades, Grind, Growth & Graduation
Let's honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by promoting equality, justice, and unity in our school community. Together, we can make a positive impact and continue the dream of a more inclusive and compassionate world.
#MLKDay #Inspiration"
Students in the DCHS Rotary Interact Club were among the volunteers who took part in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project held at the school.
Volunteers mulched and performed light pruning on the 60-plus trees planted on DCHS’ Campbellton Street campus in 2020, according to Chan Weeks, Executive Director of Keep Douglasville Beautiful, which collaborated with the City of Douglasville’s Tree Board on the project.
“Rotary Interact Club prides itself in community engagement on national and local levels, so to take our skills to the MLK Day or Service is a walk in the park,” said Drenay Everett, DCHS Rotary Interact Club sponsor.

CLEAR BAG POLICY AT ALL ATHLETIC EVENTS
DCSS has a clear bag policy at all sporting events. The policy will be similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums.
The clear bag policy will help us keep dangerous or illegal items, including weapons, out of our venues. By allowing only clear bags, we can monitor what's coming into our stadiums and gyms and keep everyone safer with only a minor inconvenience to those in attendance.
The following types of bags will be permitted inside DCSS sporting events:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12"x6"x12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
- Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5"x6.5"

Brittany's passion for writing, public speaking were sparked during her participation in the Harvard National Debate Diversity Project where she mastered the art of debate earning her a spot in the Harvard Debate Project Alumni Association her junior and senior year. She attributes her writing prowess through her selection in the Governor's Honors Program. Brittany is excited about her next journey at U Penn and plans to pursue a course of study in politics. Princeton Summer Journalist gets early decision admission to Northwestern
Meet Darasimi Bankole
Darasimi Bankole is a multifacted scholar. Last summer, she achieved a significant milestone by securing admission to the prestigious Princeton Journalism Program, where her compelling writing found a place in their summer newsletter. Her featured piece, titled "Touch the Grass," challenges Ivy League students to embrace the moment, encouraging them to pause, breathe, and appreciate the simple act of just "being."
As a dedicated intern at The Sentinel, Darasimi further hones her writing skills and gains valuable experience in the field. Beyond her commitment to journalism, she plays integral leadership roles in various school organizations, including the DCHS News Crew, IB Newsletter Committee Chair, Culinary Arts Club secretary, TOME Society and IB Council just to name a few.
Darasimi's involvement extends beyond the realm of journalism and academics. She actively participates in the African Student Association, contributing to cultural diversity and awareness within the school. In fact, she is the producer and director of our upcoming African Night slated for February 16th.
As the daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Darasimi navigates a unique path shaped by her family's expectations and support. Her parents, particularly her father, have been instrumental in guiding her choices. In navigating the delicate balance between tradition and personal aspirations, Darasimi credits her father in encouraging her to create her podcast and use her voice. Her podcast has become a platform where she delves into diverse topics, appealing to the interests of young people. From culture to politics, books, and more, Darasimi creates engaging content that resonates with a broad audience showcasing the perspectives and interests of her peers.
Northwestern University, with its renowned journalism program and academic environment, becomes the ideal setting for Darasimi to further hone her skills and deepen her understanding of both journalism and psychology. We are very proud of you, Dara?
Olivia Earl received a perfect score on the American Literature EOC
Olivia Earl earned a PERFECT score on the American Literature winter End of Course Test. Her teacher, Ms. Shannon Jones writes, "She is a great student that comes to class ready to work. She is an integral part of the band, but whenever she is out she manages to get everything done and advocates for herself. She is a quiet force!" Way to go, Olivia! We are very proud of you.

CLASSROOM CORNER: Tynisha Wilson's Honors Physics Class Designs Circuits
Gavin Vanderweit
Gabriel Tolbert
Mrs. Tynisha Wilson's Honors Physics class displayed projects as a culmination of their learning by designing quiz circuit boards.
The challenge was to design a battery-operated circuit with correct wiring on the back, capable of illuminating a light when the correct answer was selected on the front. Some students took it a step further by incorporating multiple lights or even introducing an incorrect light bulb for added complexity. The projects truly demonstrate students' understanding of electrical circuits. Who says science isn't fun and creative??
