CLEAR BAG POLICY AT ALL ATHLETIC EVENTS
DCSS has a clear bag policy at all sporting events. The policy will be similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums.
The clear bag policy will help us keep dangerous or illegal items, including weapons, out of our venues. By allowing only clear bags, we can monitor what's coming into our stadiums and gyms and keep everyone safer with only a minor inconvenience to those in attendance.
The following types of bags will be permitted inside DCSS sporting events:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12"x6"x12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
- Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5"x6.5"

Collegeboard recognizes four top DCHS students
Christopher Leonard, Jr.
Anna Liu
Isabel Yang
Luke Whitcomb
College Board has recently acknowledged the exceptional accomplishments and high academic achievements of four outstanding DCHS students: Christopher Leonard, Anna Liu, Isabel Yang, and Luke Whitcomb. These commendable students have been recognized by the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program, earning the distinction of "commended scholars" for their remarkable performance, placing them in the top 3-4% of PSAT/NMSQT test-takers in Georgia.
In recognition of this achievement, each student receives a certificate from the NMSC, a prestigious acknowledgment that can be highlighted in their college applications.
It's important to note that commended scholars, such as these DCHS students, are not only recognized for their academic excellence but also become eligible for numerous scholarships and awards based on their overall achievements, including participation in extracurricular activities and other noteworthy contributions.
DCHS takes immense pride in the accomplishments of Christopher, Anna, Isabel and Luke, and we are confident that their educational journey will continue to be adorned with many more accolades in the future. Congratulations to these exceptional scholars, and we look forward to celebrating their continued success!

Santa arrived early for 10 Douglas County High School students. Georgia Tech Undergraduate Admissions staff members dropped in to share some exciting news! Over 7,000 students who applied to Georgia Tech in Early Action 1 received their early admission decisions. This represents a 6 percent increase from the state compared to last year.
According to Associate Director of Community Relations Stephanie Douglas, when looking for students who would be the best fit for Georgia Tech, they were searching for students who are solution-oriented, students wanting to make a difference in the world, and students who believe in the Georgia Tech motto of progress and service.
The young scholars and their parents erupted with joy when each student’s name was announced.
The following DCHS seniors received the remarkable news:
- Vincent Bui
- Chase Curtis
- Anthony Douglas
- Christopher Leonard, Jr.

Of the Early Action 1 admit pool, 13% come from rural areas of Georgia; 12% are first-generation college students (neither parent graduated from college); and 25% identify as Black, Hispanic, or multiracial.

Sire Hardaway named winner of the Howard Thompson Award
Douglas County High School quarterback Sire Hardaway was recently named the winner of the Howard Thompson Award as the county’s top senior football player.
Tigers Coach Johnny White presented Hardaway with the award during a ceremony at the school on December 13.
Hardaway led Douglas County to its first region title since 2002 and a Class 6A state semifinal appearance this year. He finished the 2023 season with 175 pass completions for 2,933 yards and 23 touchdowns. He rushed for another 404 yards and four TDs.
For his career, Hardaway threw for 6,429 yards and 48 touchdowns.
Tigers Quarterbacks Coach Corky Gordon said Hardaway is the best quarterback he’s ever coached.
"This is just as special to me as it is to him," Gordon said. "We’ve been together for the past three years. He’s been so mature from the first time that I met him as a sophomore until now. He’s grown leaps and bounds. When I first came in he was actually the one who taught me the offense. So he’s that intelligent and that smart and that in tune with what everyone does around him. He’s a joy to be around."
The Howard Thompson Award is named in honor of the man who brought football to the county in 1924. The county’s football coaches, athletics director and selected media members vote on the award each year.
DCHS Hosts a Movie Night for Seniors
DCHS seniors embraced the festive season as they gathered at the DCHS Theatre for an evening of fun while indulging in the timeless holiday classic, The Polar Express. The cozy atmosphere was complemented by the delightful aroma of freshly popped popcorn, sweet candies, and warm cups of hot chocolate, creating a perfect blend of cinematic delight and seasonal indulgence. The event not only provided a welcome break from academic routines, but also fostered a sense of community among the seniors, making it a memorable occasion for all. Kudos to the DCHS Class of #2024!

DCHS is a Caring Community
A select group of distinguished members from the DCHS French and Spanish National Honor Society recently embarked on their customary annual excursion to Harbor Assisted Living. Their objective was to graciously bestow presents and heartfelt cards to esteemed residents while serenading them with Christmas carols in three languages: French, Spanish, and English. The students devoted time to fellowship with the residents, creating a heartwarming atmosphere and spreading good cheer throughout the facility. The event proved to be a delightful occasion, enjoyed by both the students and the residents, as it not only showcased the linguistic talents of the honor society members, but also fostered a sense of connection and joy during the holiday season. Thank you to Dr. Whitney Dubrulle and the honor society members for arranging this special event every year!
Oh, What Fun!
The DC Tiger Band orchestrated a delightful Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, December 2nd, hosting a vibrant array of 27 vendors. The community response was nothing short of fantastic, with families turning out in impressive numbers. Even Santa Claus himself took a break from holiday photo sessions to explore the unique offerings. The band's students played a pivotal role, earning praise for their helpfulness and warm hospitality. Visitors and vendors alike expressed their satisfaction not only with the students' assistance but also with the diverse selection of handmade products available.
These outreach opportunities play a crucial role in fostering engagement within the DCHS community. The positive feedback from both vendors and families underscores the success of the event. Encouragingly, vendors are already looking ahead and expressing their eagerness to participate in the upcoming Gathering Marching Band Competition scheduled for the Fall of 2024. The Holiday Craft Fair not only celebrated the spirit of the season, but also strengthened community ties and set the stage for exciting future collaborations.
