On Saturday, September 23, 2023, Eduardo Lozano (15) - a Freshman at Douglas County High School - and his fellow Team DCS teammates will join 1,000+ other swimmers at Swim Across America-Atlanta’s 11th Annual Open Water Event being held at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia, benefitting the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Olympic Swimmer Super Bowl’, the Atlanta Open Water Event draws in a number of well-known Olympic swimmers, including Craig Beardsley, Carlton Bruner, Steve Lundquist, Maritza Correia McClendon, Karen Lynn Joyce, Ashley Whitney, Missy Franklin Johnson, Amanda Weir, Geoff Gaberino, Andrew Gemmell, Doug Gjertsen, Bobby Hackett, McClain Hermes, Katie Hoff, Joe Hudepohl, Janel Jorgensen McArdle, Kristy Kowal, Megan Neyer, Heather Petri, Ramon Valle, , Nei-Kuan Chia, Hali Flickinger, Neil Versfield, Shannon Vreeland, Daniel Waters, Peter Wright, Eric Wunderlich, and Paige Zemina, along with Paralympic swimmers Mallory Weggemann, Hannah Aspden, and McClain Hermes.
Team DCS is comprised of six swimmers (and a former Coach) who are members of Direct Current Swimming - a private USA Swimming Club in the Georgia LSC - led by Head Coach Jarrod Hunte that practices out of Boundary Waters Aquatic Center in Douglasville, Georgia, representing five communities in West Georgia that include Bowdon, Bremen, Carrollton, Newnan, and Douglasville.
Since its inception in 2021, Team DCS has successfully raised over $13,347 by hosting Spirit Nights at local establishments and various miscellaneous fundraising events within each of their Communities throughout the year, seeking to raise funding and awareness for the importance of Childhood Cancer research.
